Numerical Modeling

Center for Intensive Numerical Modeling (CINM)

The Center for Intensive Numerical Modeling (CINM) drives cutting-edge computational research across a broad spectrum of scientific disciplines. Equipped with powerful Xeon multiprocessor workstations operating on SUSE Linux, the CINM supports serial and massively parallel computations, enabling high-performance modeling of complex systems. The center’s focus spans Molecular Sciences, materials research, and beyond, fostering collaborations with renowned international institutions and producing high-impact publications.
  • Bacterial Pathology: Exploring the chelation mechanisms of transition metals (Fe, Co, Mg, Zn) by bacterial metallophores like pseudopaline and staphylopine, virulence factors crucial to bacterial survival. Insights from this research could enhance clinical strategies to combat bacterial infections.
  • Iron Chelation Therapy: Studying the chelating molecule deferasirox at the quantum level to understand its mechanisms in removing excess iron, particularly for patients undergoing frequent blood transfusions.
  • Magnetic Spin-Crossover Mechanisms: Investigating ultrafast laser-induced spin transitions in iron and cobalt complexes, which involve color changes and hold potential for innovative applications. Collaborative research with the University of Rennes (France) has resulted in significant joint publications in top-tier scientific journals.
CINM also leads research in materials science, focusing on the search for ultrahard carbon systems akin to diamond. Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory

The Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory is a cornerstone of innovation at LGU, providing a hands-on environment for advanced research and development in healthcare technology. Equipped with state-of-the-art devices such as ECG, EMG, and EEG machines, as well as sophisticated sensors, transducers, and data acquisition systems, the lab enables students and researchers to explore and develop cutting-edge biomedical solutions.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the lab played a pivotal role in enabling students to collaborate with industry partners to design and produce ventilators, demonstrating the lab’s capacity to support research with immediate societal impact. Projects conducted in the lab range from prototyping biomedical devices to exploring human-computer interaction and signal processing in healthcare.
By offering access to advanced tools and fostering an environment of innovation, the Biomedical Instrumentation Laboratory empowers students to transform their ideas into practical healthcare advancements, bridging the gap between research and real-world application.
Nursing Simulation

Nursing Simulation Laboratory

The Nursing Simulation Laboratory is a cutting-edge facility designed to provide students with an immersive learning environment using state-of-the-art mannequins that replicate real-life clinical scenarios in real-life hospital settings. These advanced mannequins enable students to practice essential nursing skills, such as IV procedures, CPR, and comprehensive patient care, in a controlled and realistic setting. This immersive setup closely mirrors actual hospital conditions, providing students with the confidence and competence needed for clinical practice.
Beyond skill development, the lab serves as a platform for research into clinical education techniques and the effectiveness of simulation-based learning in improving patient outcomes. Nutrition Clinic

Nutrition and Research Clinic (NaRC)

The Nutrition and Research Clinic (NaRC) at LGU is dedicated to promoting community health and advancing preventive care through research and education. The clinic provides nutritional guidance, advocates for healthy eating habits, and addresses public health issues related to diet and nutrition. The clinic welcomes patients for consultations that include comprehensive body composition analysis, offering personalized nutritional guidance tailored to their needs. Simultaneously, it serves as a clinical training ground where students gain hands-on experience by engaging directly with patients under faculty supervision.
NaRC also plays a pivotal role in LGU’s broader research initiatives, linking its work to community nutrition and public health challenges. Faculty and student researchers address critical areas such as food safety, non-communicable diseases, and genetic factors influencing obesity, generating valuable insights that inform community interventions and public policy. The clinic's emphasis on preventive care aims to identify and mitigate health risks before they escalate, fostering a healthier population.

Nutrition Clinic – NaRC

Established in 2021, the Nutrition and Research Clinic (NaRC) at LGU is a key resource for both the community and the academic field of nutrition. The clinic's mission is to raise awareness about healthy diets, provide nutritional guidance to community members, and promote research that encourages healthier eating habits. Through NaRC, we aim to address public health concerns related to diet and nutrition, helping individuals make informed, health-conscious choices.
As part of LGU’s commitment to promoting community health and disease prevention while fostering a sense of community service and social responsibility among its students, NaRC brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists, healthcare professionals, and nutrition students. These professionals collaborate on research and public health studies to investigate the underlying mechanisms behind eating patterns and nutrition-related health risks, offering valuable insights into the role of diet in health and disease prevention. Students, under the guidance of faculty, actively participate in these initiatives, gaining practical experience and contributing to impactful research.


Student Involvement

A unique feature of NaRC is its integration into the practical education of students within the Nutrition and Dietetics Department. Under the supervision of experienced faculty members, students actively participate in the operations of the clinic. This hands-on involvement allows students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings by conducting nutrition assessments, providing dietary counseling, and supporting community outreach initiatives. This practical experience not only enhances their clinical and counseling skills but also prepares them for their future roles as licensed dietitians, strengthening their ability to work with diverse populations and address various nutritional needs.

 

Research Focus

The Nutrition and Dietetics Department, in collaboration with NaRC, emphasizes research in key areas such as food consumption practices, nutritional assessments, food safety, and the quality of traditional foods. Additionally, the department explores diet-related non-communicable diseases and the genetic traits underlying nutrition and obesity-related health issues. Through this research, NaRC plays a vital role in advancing knowledge, improving health outcomes, and shaping nutrition-related public health policies in Lebanon and beyond.
