| 1. Do I need to speak German to enroll at LGU? | top |
No, you do not need to know any German to enroll at LGU. However, German is taught as elective courses at various levels.
It is the European Credit Transfer System that is adopted all over Europe. It provides a way of measuring learning achievements. Although it allows you to transfer easily from LGU to any European university you choose to pursue your education in, you can, however, use those credits to transfer to any university operating in any country. The ECTS ensures full academic recognition for the courses you have already accomplished at LGU with no risk of losing any credit once you transfer abroad.
| 3. Do I need to take a placement test before I register? | top |
Yes, you do need to take one or more placement test(s), depending on the major you want to join. You are requested to sit for an English test if you choose to enroll in the English section, or a French test if you choose to enroll in the French section. Some majors require additional mathematics and/or aptitude test. The fees per test is LL 50,000.
| 4. What documents do I need to present for admission? | top |
As a new applicant, you have to fill in an Application Form PDF at the Admission Office. The documents required are the following:
- Two recent passport size photographs certified by the mayor.
- Two certified copies of all official certificates or diplomas and the Baccalaureate Part II degree.
- Two copies of the identity card or one copy of the Civil Status Record.
- Two copy of the Family Civil Status Record.
- One recent Police Record.
- Attestation of medical coverage by NSSF (National Social Security Fund), Mutual Insurance, the Army or the Internal Security Forces, if available.
- Admission Fee of 150000 L.L.
- Placement Test Fee of 50000 L.L. per test.
You are admitted to LGU according to University rules and regulations upon presenting the documents mentioned above and after taking the Entrance Test.
| 5. What are the procedures followed for admission? | top |
The first place to go when you decide to join LGU is the Admissions Office, located on the ground floor of the central building. All what you need to know such as dates and deadlines for submitting applications, payments, placement tests, and other important information shall be provided to you.
| 6. What documents do I need to finalize my registration? | top |
If you are a new student who does NOT benefit from any of the governmental health care services*, you have to:
- Fill out تصريح عن طالب جامعي and تعهد عدم استفادة
- Attach a photocopy (اخراج قيد عائلي) no older than 6 months.
If you are a new student who benefits from any of the governmental health care services*, you have to:
- Fill out تصريح استفادة
- Attach an original افادة من مركز التبعية الرسمي which certifies that he/she benefits plus a photocopy of the statement.
If you are an old student who benefits from القوى الامنية :الجيش، الامن الداخلي، الامن العام، أمن الدولة والجمارك you have to fill out تصريح استفادة and attach البطاقة الصحية
*The governmental heath care services are the following:

| 8. I am a foreigner. What documents do I need to register at LGU? | top |
At registration, you have to submit all the required documents requested from a new student (refer to N°4) plus:
- Equivalence of your degree from the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Equivalence of your grades record certified by the Ministry of Higher.
| 9. I want to transfer from another university to LGU. What should I do? | top |
Students from other universities may be admitted on transfer basis. Those students need to submit an official transcript of record in addition to the documents stated above. Students may receive credits up to 50% of core courses and up to 50% of major courses as defined in the LGU programs. Senior courses cannot be transferred. Letters shall be sent to students before registration.
| 10. When do I pay my university fees? | top |
Charges are paid as designated in the University Fees list. All charges listed in the Statement of Fees must be paid before classes begin. However, installment plans are possible. Students desiring to settle their fees based on a certain payment plan are requested to pass by the Business Office – Accounts Receivable section. However, no certificate can be issued before settling all fees due and/or receiving a financial clearance from the Business Office.
| 11. What are the procedures followed for registration? | top |
Upon admission, you are expected to receive a package informing you about the most important steps you have to undertake. This package shall include useful information about your advisor's name, office location, registration steps, registration and drop/add period, class schedule, and payment procedures. For more specific information, refer to the Administration menu and check the information listed under the Registrar's Office.
| 12. What are the procedures involved in settling my tuition? | top |
During the Registration Period signaled on the Academic Calendar, you finalize your registration at the Head of Registrar. There you decide how you want to settle your tuition. You can settle your tuition in one of the following manners:
- If you are a full time undergraduate, you have to settle your tuition in two payments at the accredited bank. The first payment has to be settled within the first two weeks of the semester and the second payment has to be settled before the Midterm Exam.
- If you are a part time undergraduate, you have to settle your tuition in full at the accredited bank within the first two weeks of the semester.
- You can settle your tuition in installments if you have taken a bank loan for that purpose.
| 13. What happens if I don’t settle my tuition? | top |
Failure to abide by the deadlines set for the settlement of the tuition installments will result in:
- A penalty fee of 10000 L.L. for every day of delay.
- An official warning for a delay of one month.
- Denial of record or grade transcript or even grade communication.
- Denial of final exams or registration for a new semester.
| 14. In what cases am I charged a financial penalty? | top |
You are charged penalty on:
- Late registration i.e. if you register after the deadline for Registration Period signaled on the Academic Calendar.
- Late payment i.e. if you settle any of your installments later than the due date set for that installment.
| 15. I need some advice relating to my major. Who should I go to? | top |
If you haven’t registered yet i.e. haven’t selected a major, you go to the SAO for advice. Once you have registered and need academic advice, you go to the Head of Department in the faculty you are registered in.
| 16. Can I attend a course as an auditor? | top |
Yes, you can. As auditor, you can register in a desired course but have no right to enroll at University. You are also required to pay the course fees and will not be able to change your status back to a part time or full time student. You will not be granted credits or official grading and will not be considered for enrollment certification, ID card, or financial aid. As auditor, you can only request an attendance certification.
| 17. What is the minimum/maximum number of credits I can take within a semester? | top |
You can take up to 30 credits per semester. However, the minimum number of credits you can take per semester is 15. At registration, you decide with your advisor on the number of credits you should take.
| 18. What is a general requirement course? | top |
It is a course that provides a broadly based education required to earn a degree. All general requirement courses are compulsory.
| 19. What is a core course? | top |
It is a course that addresses the main components of a program and is a base requirement for all students in that program. It is a requisite for graduation, therefore, compulsory for all students in related programs.
| 20. What is a major course? | top |
It is a specialized component course at the heart of the student’s major. Students register for their major courses after successfully passing the general requirement and core courses.
| 21. What is a remedial course? | top |
It is an intensive non-credit course that you are required to take to make up for deficiency in a certain subject. The University decides whether or not you need a remedial course based on the results of your Entrance Test. Remedial courses are usually English or French language courses.

| 23. What is a probationary condition? | top |
If your GPA drops below 2.0, you are put on probation for the upcoming semester. Students on probation cannot register for more than 15 credits and must not carry more than 12 credits of repeated courses.
If probation persists for more than two consecutive semesters, the probationary student is either suspended for a full semester or requested to change major.
| 24. How is an overall grade calculated for a course? | top |
All grades are recorded over 100. The calculation of an overall grade for a certain course is done by adding up the sum of the distributed grades throughout the semester according to the following criteria:

| 25. Am I allowed to be absent from a course? | top |
Attendance is compulsory for all university courses including remedial ones. It is also allocated 10% of your overall grade. Therefore, you are strongly recommended to attend all your courses and restrict absenteeism to the minimum. You are also required to present a written justification for any absence within 48 hours following that absence.
Bear in mind that frequent absenteeism will affect your overall grades and lower your GPA. You must also be aware that if your attendance drops below 80% for theoretical courses and below 90% for practical courses or internship, you risk being denied the right to exams.
In the case of emergency absence (unexpected trip, business or family constraints), you may request an absence leave justifying in writing the reason for your absence. Such leave must be approved by the Administration to allow you to subsequently resume your studies or renew your registration.
| 26. What should I do if I miss a midterm or a final exam? | top |
If you miss a test or exam due to justified absenteeism (such as severe illness, death in the family, or emergency hospitalization), you have the right to make-up exams only after approval of the course instructor and the Administration. Remember that the Administration will refer to the internal regulations to evaluate you if you have been absent.
| 27. What should I do if I need a formal attestation? | top |
If you need any kind of attestation, you have to fill in an attestation request form from Monday through Wednesday. Attestations are delivered on Thursdays and Fridays within working days excluding exams and registration periods.
| 28. When do I get my ID card? | top |
You get your University ID only after presenting all documents listed in numbers 4 and 6 above.
| 29. What privileges do I get from my university ID? | top |
LGU ID holders enjoy many privileges, such as getting special discounts in various shops, diners, and beach resorts. They also have free access to Ghazir Sports Club.
| 30. How am I informed of any administrative or academic schedule? | top |
Administrative notices are posted on the bulletin boards on the ground floor. You are advised to check the boards daily.
Schedules related to the academic year are posted on the bulletin boards and announced on LGU official website.
| 31. How do I apply for financial aid? | top |
LGU has a special financial aid department that provides students with special financial aid from the Lebanese German Association for the Promotion of Culture as well as personalized financial solutions, such as:
- Special discounts on credit price
- Financial aid from private organizations
- Part time jobs
- Excellence grants
- Monthly allowances
To apply for financial aid, you have to fill in the Financial Aid Application PDF available at SAO.
| 32. Can LGU help me find a part-time job? | top |
LGU provides recruitment services that help you find part time jobs to help finance your studies. The University also helps graduates find a job according to their qualifications and experience through a data base network linked to different institutions and private companies.
It also provides you with a list of addresses where you can do your internship or training prior to graduation to benefit from real-life experience and put your training to use once you graduate. In order to benefit from these facilities, you should request assistance from the PR Department.
| 33. Can I drop a course? | top |
Yes, you can. However, you have to abide by the Drop & Add period signaled by the Administration upon Registration. You should also observe the following conditions:
- You cannot drop any course if you are registered for less than 15 credits.
- If you drop a course without adding another, you are charged 25% of the course cost.
- If you drop a course and add another, your tuition is not affected.

| 34. Can I withdraw from a course? | top |
If you have any doubts about passing a course, you can withdraw from it after discussing the matter with your academic advisor. Remember that you have to respect the deadline for withdrawal set in the Academic Calendar and that even when you withdraw from a course you still have to settle the course credits in full.
| 35. Can I stop my courses for one semester? | top |
Yes, you can, especially in the case of emergency suspension, such as unexpected trip, business or family constraints. However, you have to request an absence leave justifying in writing the reason you are suspending your courses. Your absence must be approved by the Administration to allow you to subsequently resume your studies or renew your registration.
| 36. How many times am I allowed to repeat a course? | top |
If you fail a course, you are allowed to repeat it twice. If you fail that course three times, you will be suspended from University for one semester.
| 37. Can I change major? | top |
Yes, you are allowed to change majors within faculties and between faculties. To change a major within your faculty, you must have completed at least one semester in it. However, if you change majors between faculties, you will be regarded as a new student in that faculty and only common courses credits will be counted in your GPA. In both cases, you must fill in a change of major request form available at SAO.
| 38. Is there accommodation on LGU campus? | top |
Yes, accommodation is available on LGU campus. Rooms are comfortable and affordable. They are also fully equipped with internet connection, private kitchenette, and bathrooms. You can inquire about room rates at the SAO.
| 39. Are parking spaces available on LGU campus? | top |
Underground parking spaces are available for all registered students for 120.000L.L. per semester.
